HELLO? HELlo? HEllo? hello? hello? hello?
Our Alpha group was discussing the ways God speaks to us and guides us. He uses His Spirit, Scriptures, other believers, common sense, that famous still, small voice. . .It seems like it should be so easy to hear His voice and know the direction i am supposed to take. Why isn't it that easy?? How is it that i miss what He says? Or i make a wrong choice? If i would just stop and listen. Really listen to the God of the universe. He cares enough to speak to me, to JayeZ, the maker of many mistakes. i love the verse in Joel - 2:25 to be exact. . "I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten. . " Even when i have messed up - for a long or short period of time, God always redeems and forgives. He works the bad for good. Amazing. It is all redeemed. Amen

I had a strange thought about Paul's letter to the Romans the other day along similar lines. Paul writes that what he wants to do he cannot do, but he keeps on doing what he doesn't want to do. We usually address this as our continuing in sin even as we don't want to, which is true. But there's a double-meaning here. Since a fallen person is of two natures--the sinful and the clean--it follows that both of these natures are TRUE things. So, Paul also wants to sin, truely, because that is his sinful nature, but he cannot do those things--for in salvation, we strive to be perfect.
The life of a young Christian, and even ourselves sometimes, is incredibly paralyzing: we cannot follow our good impulse because of our sinful nature, and we cannot follow our sinful nature because of our good impulse! We often end up doing nothing.
So "the why can't I hear" question is sometimes more of the same: there is sin, and there is good, and we often cannot act on either. We cannot hear the call of sin, we cannot hear the call of God, and everything is quiet. That's harder than listening to two screaming voices.
